Looking for more real world data to explore?

Can’t wait to finally start traveling again?

We have just what you need, including another chance to win a free all-access membership to Maven!

We’ve just added a HUGE new data set to the Data Playground with real data from Airbnb, one of the world's largest online marketplaces for vacation rentals.

This data set is perfect for applying your ETL, data analysis, and visualization skills, so fire up your favorite BI tools (Excel, MySQL, Power BI, Tableau, etc.) and dig in!

To go along with this release, we’re launching the Maven Vacation Challenge and giving away a free all-access membership to the winner.

We’ll share more about the challenge details below, but first let’s talk about the data…

About the dataset

  • This dataset contains 2 tables, in csv format
  • The Listings table contains over 250,000 Airbnb listings from 10 of the world’s most visited cities (each record represents one listing), with fields containing details about the host, location, price, type, ratings, etc.
  • The Reviews table contains over 5,000,000 Airbnb reviews from the same 10 cities (each record represents one review), with fields containing the listing id, review date, and reviewer id
  • NOTE: We omitted the review text to reduce file size, but it's fair game to include if you can find and integrate that data into your model!

How to play the Maven Vacation Challenge

For this challenge, your goal is to produce a single-page report or dashboard exploring interesting patterns and trends in the global vacation rental market.

Here’s how to submit your entry:

  • Follow Maven Analytics on LinkedIn (existing followers can still play)
  • Share a LinkedIn post containing the both a direct @ mention to @Maven Analytics, and the hashtag #mavenvacationchallenge
  • In your post, share a single-page visualization or dashboard based on the challenge objective above
  • Tag, mention, and invite your connections to play along!

How to win

Finalists will be chosen by a panel of previous challenge winners, Maven Hall of Famers, and the Maven team. Each panelist will name one finalist, and the winner will be selected from the finalist pool by the Maven team, via live voting.

What you can win

As part of the Maven Vacation Challenge, we'll be giving away 1 annual all-access Maven membership completely free of charge. The winner will get access to all of our Excel, Power BI, Tableau, and SQL courses, as well as our ongoing Machine Learning series, all with direct support and coaching from our expert instructors.

No purchase is necessary to participate. As always, this challenge is open to both current Maven subscribers and new students who have no relationship with Maven.
